Assalaamualaikum and have a good weekend to all of my friends. I am happy that we had reach towards the end of our semester. There are lots of experience and knowledge that i got from my lecturers and my friends. High appreciation to my lecturers, Mr Mokhtazul Haizad, Pn. Syarifah Anom, Mr Norzaidi, Dr Saiman and Mr Sivayogam for teaching me lots of knowledge in many aspect of engineering. At first this blog was created as to accomplished the assignment given by Mr Mokhtazul Haizad but at last i think this blog will be useful in the next coming semester as to guide other future engineers in unisel. Hopefully i can score for this semester and joined the elite group for the next semester. gud luck to all of my friends. together we achieve our goals for this semester. thank u.

STRESS AND STRAIN- DIRECT STRAIN
Strain symbol can be represented by,
Strain is thus a measure of the deformation of the bar and is dimensionless. Generally, the magnitude is so small that it is normally stated in microstrain. Alternatively, strain can be expressed as percent (%):

STRESS AND STRAIN- DIRECT, NORMAL OR AXIAL STRESS
STRESS can be represented by symbol.
Normal stress results from a uniformly or equally applied direct force across a cross section. This definition is illustrated in figure below:
The load P causes the cylinder to increase in length. At equilibrium, the internal force P will be produced at a cross-section x-x as shown in figure above. The stress may be compressive or tensile depending on the nature of the internal forces and are measured in units of newton per square metre.
STRESS AND STRAIN –LOADS
Before any engineering structure can be used, we have to ensure that it is able to sustain the load acted on it throughout its life. If the components or members are in equilibrium, the resultant of the external forces will be zero.
LOADS
If a cylindrical bar is subjected to a direct pull or push along its axis as shown in figure below, then it is said to be subjected to tension or compression.
Example of tension --> a force present in towing ropes or lifting hoists.
Example of compression --> à forces in the leg of a chair as we sit on it or forces in the support pillars of building.
TYPES OF LOADING | EXAMPLES |
Static or dead loads | Non fluctuating stationary loads. (generally caused by self-weight of structures) |
Live loads | Moving loads, for example vehicular loads on bridges. |
Impact or shock loads | Loads caused by sudden blows. |
Fatigue, fluctuating or alternating loads | Loads where magnitude and direction change with time. |

MECHANICS OF MATERIAL- CONCEPT OF STRESS
INTRODUCTION
the main study obkective of the mechanics of materials is to provide the future engineer with the means of analyzing and distinguishing various machine and load bearing structure involve the determination of stresses and deformations. Mechanics of materials will deals with the concept of stresses. There are 3 main type of stresses that we will learn:
- normal stresses
- shearing stresses
- bearing stresses
the aim of this subject is to provide foundation knowledge in stresses, strains, and displacements of deform body, produced by the exerted loads.
the basic outcomes of this subject are as follows:
- define and determine the concept of stress-strain diagram.
- analyse the deformation of a structural member under axial loading.
- analyse the transformation of the component of stress and strain.
- analyse the stresses and strains in prismatic members subjected to bending.
- analyse the design of beams under traverse loading.
- analyse the design of vertical prismatic members supporting axial loads.
- analyse and design of shafts subjected to twisting couples.
- analyse the stresses and deformations in structures using strain energy.

ESQ TRAINING PROGRAMME
MY FIRST EXPERIENCE IN JOINING THE FACULTY PROGRAMME WAS ESQ TRAINING. IM VERY HAPPY WITH THE ACTIVITIES AND MOTIVATIONAL TALK THAT WAS HELD FROM 9.00AM TO 5:00PM. I WANT TO THANK ALL OF LECTURERS WHO SPENT THEIR TIME TO GIVE US GUIDANCE AND TRYING TO SOLVE OUR PROBLEM IN A PROPER WAY. IN ADDITION, IT WAS VERY INTERESTING TO MEET LOTS OF FRIEND FROM DIFFERENT BACKGROUND. HOPEFULLY, THEY WILL IMPROVE THEMSELVES FROM TIME TO TIME SO THAT THEY WILL GRADUATE FROM UNISEL WITH A FLYING COLOURS RESULT AND ACHIVE THEIR FUTURE GOALS.
